The Reunification of Jerusalem

One reader sent me these videos, which gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. They show the reunification of Jerusalem in 1967.

    This brought back some memories.

    I remember this war vividly, and I recall visiting the Western Wall shortly after the war, when it was still almost hidden in a small alley – no huge plaza in those days.

    I was also in Jerusalem when it was still divided and saw armed Jordanian soldiers perched high on the effective demarcation walls. Then the border crossing point was the Mandelbaum Gate. Only foreigners could pass through – no Israelis or Jews.

    When it was dismantled was the time that one could really say that Jerusalem was re-united.

    In those days the thought of it ever being divided again would have been considered like treason if it were ever uttered.

    What a difference 48 years makes!
