Copenhagen, Israel, and the Environment

You probably know about the environmental conference in Copenhagen to address climate change. Many of the world’s leaders, including US President Barack Obama and Israeli President Shimon Peres, have gathered to discuss what may be the most important issue facing the international community today. It is an issue that requires unprecedented global cooperation, and it [...]

Peres Interview Highlights

The Telegraph interviewed President Shimon Peres and discussed topics ranging from Gaza to Iran. Here are some of my favorite highlights.

Hezbollah More Dangerous to Lebanon Than Israel

A Hezbollah leader’s home exploded in Tayr Filsi in Southern Lebanon killing five, including the terrorist leader and his son.  This is further evidence that Hezbollah is re-stocking weapons in civilian areas around Lebanon.  These are the people Jimmy Carter calls partners for peace.
President Shimon Peres spoke about the event, stating that Hezbollah is more of [...]

Obama To Mediate Netanyahu-Abbas Negotiations

Israeli President Shimon Peres has revealed a plan for President Barack Obama to mediate discussions between Netanyahu and Abbas over the stalled peace process, which has been pretty much at a standstill since the 1993 Oslo Accords were signed.
Peres also said that Obama’s administration is focusing too much on settlements and not enough on the [...]

Preres Supports Obama Iran Plan

In an unexpected move, Israeli President Shimon Peres has come out in support of President Barack Obama’s plans to attempt to negotiate with Iran, who’s president constantly preaches Israel’s destruction.
This is an interesting development. I suspect the Obama-Peres meeting included a lot of non-public information. I am all for the plan of negotiating [...]

Peres Says No Military Action Against Iran

Israel’s President, Shimon Peres, said that Israel will take no military action against Iran. Peres told US President Obama’s envoy that any rumor of a pending military action is unfounded.
The meeting was part of a high ranking visit from envoy George Mitchell who earlier in the day met with Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.
From the [...]

In the Summer of 2005 the Israelis (and the Jewish world) were divided on Gaza. Thousands of Jewish residents around the Gaza Strip had made their home in Gush Katif for decades. Their homes, their communities, their families, and their livelihood were all based in Gaza.

That summer, many of us were wearing orange bracelets, t-shirts, [...]

Shimon Peres was the eight elected Prime Minster of Israel. He currently serves as President of Israel. He has held his current office since July 2007.
Peres was born in Poland (now Belarus) in 1923. Peres moved to the British Mandate of Palestine in 1934. Peres grew up in a non-religious home but was grandson of [...]

Peres and Livni To Attend UN Interfaith Conference

President Shimon Peres and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, who recently failed to become Prime Minister, will travel to New York together for a UN Interfaith Conference arranged by Saudi King Abdullah.

All of the 192 United Nations members are expected to send a representative to the conference. It will be interesting to see how Israel interacts [...]

Don King Comes To Israel

I recently mentioned that Guns n’ Roses guitarist Slash is going to perform at the Shimon Peres center in Tel Aviv. It turns out that another big name celebrity is going to make an appearance at the same event: Boxing promoter Don King!
King said that the black community of America could learn something about [...]
