The recent escalation in rhetoric on both sides of the Israeli-Syrian border has, once again, raised the profile of the relationship between the two countries. Defence Minister Ehud Barak told a gathering of senior IDF officers last week that, in the absence of a peace deal, Israel could find itself at war with Syria. Syrian [...]

The official international organization that determines the status of disputed territories has made a compromise on the Golan Heights. After a drive by Honest Reporting, an Israel based media bias watchdog, Facebook has made changes to allow Israelis living in Northern Israel (aka the Golan) to set their hometown to something other than Syria.
Prior settings [...]

Israeli forces captured a Syrian man who had illegally entered Israel. It appeared that he had entered Israel on foot from the Syrian border.
The man was unarmed and was just walking through the Golan when the IDF took him into custody. He apparently did not have hostile intentions and will be sent back [...]

Syria has made some large demands in the indirect peace talks taking place with Israel. A recent set of demands, however, cross lines a lot bigger than the Golan.
I have said time and again that it is not worth any price with Syria to give up the Golan. If you have ever been there, you [...]

I just read an interesting, and seemingly true, article on peace with Syria and why Bashar Assad, Syria’s President, wants the Golan Heights so badly.
It seems that Syria is the only hostile border Israel has without a major civilian population on the line. Gaza and Palestinian West Bank towns use massive, dense civilian populations to [...]

I think Olmert must be kind of stupid. Land for peace does not work. Want an example? Gaza! We gave up all of Gaza under Olmert’s leadership, and dozens of rockets have been fired on Israel from the territory this month alone.
I am not a zealot. I am not an [...]

Ehud Olmert’s interview last week about Israel’s future has pissed off more people than just me. Apparently he is being attack on all sides by Israeli politicians for his statement.
His own party’s Tzipi Livni (alleged Prime Minister elect) said that she has nothing to do with the statements regarding giving away the Golan, West Bank, [...]

Israelis and Palestinians have been killing each other for years. I have discussed peace and war on this blog many times, but have not discussed a real, possible solution. On the tail end of Pesach, where we celebrate our freedom, it is relevant to discuss freedom from the fear of terrorism and the [...]

According to Syrian media, which sources Syrian Prime Minister Bashar Assad, which sources Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minsiter Olmert is ready to negotiate giving away the Golan Heights for a peace treaty with Syria.
If this is true, it is time for Israelis to break the coallition and form a new government. [...]

Google must consider the Golan Heights part of Syria. This map is of the Golan Heights, with the Kineret (Sea of Gallile) at the bottom. You can see the “border of Israel” go around the sea and ends there.
That is peculiar, because when I was there about a year ago, there was no [...]
