Victim of Media Bias United with Soldier who Saved Him

by Eric on September 3, 2010

Many of us remember the infamous picture that shows an “Israeli policeman and a Palestinian on the Temple Mount.”  We found out, of course, that the bloody “Palestinian” in the picture was a 20 year old Jewish student who had been beaten by a Palestinian mob.  The police officer saved his life.

Honest Reporting hunted down both the student, Tuvia Grossman, and the policeman, one of six soldiers Grossman credits for saving him from the mob.  The video of their meeting is below.

From Honest Reporting:

On September 30, 2000, The New York Times, Associated Press and other major media outlets published a photo of a young man — bloodied and battered — crouching beneath a club-wielding Israeli policeman. The caption identified him as a Palestinian victim of Israeli brutality – with the clear implication that the Israeli soldier was the one who beat him.

That young man was, in fact, Tuvia Grossman, a Jewish student from Chicago, who was beaten within inches of his life before being rescued by the Israeli border policeman in the photo.

Thanks for this Eric; I’d like to post this on my blog, and will credit finding it here first. I remember the outrage in our community when this photo and its original false caption were discovered.

It is a perfect illustration of the world’s jumping to immediately condemn Israel before any facts are known. Truth of the matter is, the world is not even interested in facts.

At least in such a sad situation there is a somewhat happy ending. The student was not only saved, but now has a Jewish family!
