US Threatens to Cut Lebanon Aid

by Eric on August 11, 2010

Even though people keep criticizing Obama and the Democrats for not supporting Israel enough (I agree on “enough” but not on “supporting.”)  State Department leaders have said that they are concerned that military aid to Lebanon is ending up in the hands of Hezbollah terrorists, and that is unacceptable.

The Lebanese defense minister said that Lebanon welcomes aid, but will not take aid that comes with any preconditions.

“That person who said in Congress, ‘I will stop aid to the army’, he is free to do so … Anyone who wants to help the army without restrictions or conditions, is welcome,” Murr said.

“This person wants to make military aid conditional on not protecting (Lebanon’s) land, people and borders against Israeli aggression. Let them keep their money or give it to Israel. We will confront (Israel) with the capabilities we own.”

Additionally, US Representative Eric Cantor said that the lines between the army and Hezbollah have blurred.  Two Democrats are working to hold up a $100 million fund transfer to Lebanon.

I applaud the recognition by the legislators, of both parties, for seeing Lebanon for what it is.  Today, it is a home of Iranian terrorism and anti-Semitism.  It is important for Israel to be ready at a moment’s notice to defend on this hostile border.
