Recent reports show that Hezbollah is preparing for war. Recent reports show that Hezbollah is doing border reconnaissance. It also seems that Hezbollah is in the process of training exercises, with the help of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.
Israel is hard at work as well. The IDF has been working with other government offices to plan for mass evacuations in the event of rocket attacks from Lebanon. Israel has been working on improved multi-layer missile defense systems for quite some time.
It is unfortunate that we are at a point where war in inevitable. Rather than working on prevention and deterrence, Israel has been forced into a position where defense planning and capabilities are much more important than diplomacy.
This is something that the rest of the world does not seem to understand. On September 11th, 2001, people in the United States got a glimpse into daily life in Israel. As Menachem Begin once famously said, “Israel is still the only country in the world against which there is a written document to the effect that it must disappear.” There are parts of the Muslim world that wish the same fate on the United States.
This feeling has been quickly forgotten by the United States and appears foreign to leaders in Western Europe. While France is grappling with a growing internal Muslim population, the entire Muslim world has it out for Israel.
The Jewish people need the IDF to return to its level of strength, intimidation, and effectiveness of the late 1960s. In 1967, Israel proved that no matter what happens on each border, Israel could overcome and survive. Terrorist attacks from Lebanon and Gaza have weakened that international positioning, and terrorist groups are more brazen than ever.
Hopefully, under the leadership of Benjamin Netanyahu, the IDF will not enter into a disorganized war against Hezbollah. It needs to be unified, strong, and prove that anyone who attacks Israel will pay a very high price.
