Israel Joins OECD

The Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development is an international organization where nations come together to advance the economic relationship and business development of member countries.  Unlike the anti-Semites at the United Nations, the OECD can see past religion.  On Monday, the 31 members voted unanimously to include Israel in the group.

This is a great step for Israel’s economic diplomacy.  Israel’s economy is by far the strongest in the Middle East and, considering its size, is one of the more influential economies in the world.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said that the seal of approval from the OECD will help many foreign investors feel at ease putting their money to work in Israeli companies.  Netanyahu admitted that Israel’s bureaucracies are some of the worst in the world, but hopes to see Israel move into the list of the top fifteen economies by GDP nonetheless.

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman was quoted in Ha’aretz:

“The resolution was unanimous, despite attempts by anti-Israel entities to prevent the acceptance of Israel into the OECD,” Lieberman said in a statement, adding that “the fact that the attempts failed is proof of Israel’s solid standing with the international community, and that it is recognized for its achievements, despite the fierce incitement against it in every conceivable arena: political, security or economic.”

I think this is great news.  The OECD is one of the most well respected economic organizations in the world, and I am sure Israel’s involvement will be mutually beneficial to Israel and all other members.
