For years, Israel has struggled with methods to deter terrorists from the start. In the past, Israel has demolished the homes of terrorists. The idea is that terrorists do not want anything bad to happen to their families when they are gone. If they know that their family will lose their home after a terrorist attack, they will not attack in the beginning. This has been highly controversial.
In a little seen news story this week, however, Hamas has taken this to a whole new level. Rather than focus on its enemies, Hamas has been destroying the homes of innocent civilians in Rafah area.
Stating that the homes were build illegally on government land, Hamas has razed about fifty homes so far, and apparently has plans to use bulldozers to destroy more homes in the near future. Police have come into homes with clubs and have beaten civilians for refusing to leave their homes. That is far less humane than Israel was during the Gaza withdrawal in 2005, and with no good reason.
Gaza’s interior minister said that he has no information about any alternative housing for the newly homeless families.
