Netanyahu in Russia Working on Iran Support

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in Moscow meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to discus several issues, primarily Iran.

During the meeting, the Russian president said that Russia has a special relationship with Israel dating back to a shared victory over the Nazis during World War II.

The two discussed the Iranian issue, promoting the Middle East peace process, and Russian-Israeli relations.

Medevedev emphasized that Israel is not an ordinary partner for Russia, but a country with whom there are long-term relations. He spoke about the population connecting between the two countries, apparently in reference to Russian Jews.

At the start of the meeting, the Russian president said to Netanyahu that he was glad to meet with the Israeli prime minister to discuss international issues and stability in the Middle East. The two discussed the Iranian issue, promoting the Middle East peace process, and Russian-Israeli relations.

Russia and China may be the two pivotal nations that Israel needs to build a coalition that may end the Iranian nuclear threat.  Russia has supplied Iran with technology and equipment for the nuclear program, and cutting off that support stream is vital to Israel’s security.
