Egypt Claims That US Supports Palestinian State in 2012

According to Egyptian sources, the United States is supportive of a plan that would create a Palestinian state in 2012.  Israeli leaders say that it is absurd to think that a new state could be built up in two years.

If the report is true, which is highly suspect, the Palestinians would have to build up a self supported state with an independent economy, independent infrastructure, independent and reliable security forces, and a functioning government in two years.  That is about as realistic as me being elected President in two years.

First off, the entire Palestinian economy is built on donations, grants, and Israel’s kindness.  At the moment, Palestinian unemployment is 16% in Judea and Samaria and 43% in Gaza (CIA World Factbook).  With that kind of unemployment, there is little chance of an economic rebound anytime soon.  Industries and jobs need to be created outside of the terrorism sector, which is a dead end (is that in bad taste?) career option.  This is all aside from the important issue that they don’t have a currency or strong national bank.

Second, the Palestinians can’t even support themselves if they had an economy.  Where does the power and clean water come from that the Palestinians enjoy using?  It surely does not come from Ramallah.  Israel provides most everything the Palestinians need.

And the security forces and government of the Palestinians?  Well, the security forces (police and military) have become much better in Judea and Samaria lately, but they are a far stretch from legitimate on their own.  And in Gaza, they are literallyall terrorists.  The government is not much better.  PA President Abbas has called off elections indefinitely and has worked hard to maintain his power over West Bank Palestinians.  The Gazan government, which does not work with or recognize the West Bank government (both are to blame), is on a mission, according to the sixth paragraph of the Hamas charter: “Israel will rise and will remain erect until Islam eliminates it as it had eliminated its predecessors.”

So, for now, I think “Palestine” is on hold.
