Bibi: Settlement Blocs Forever Israel

by Eric on January 25, 2010

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a bold statement regarding Israelis living around Judea and Samaria.  While the smaller settlements are still in jeopardy, those living in the major settlement blocs, such as Gush Etzion, are safe under Likud’s watch.

“The message is clear – we are here and will remain here. We are planting and building; this is an inseparable part of the State of Israel.”

Benjamin Netanyahu made that statement at a tree planting tour of the West Bank shortly after a meeting with US Envoy George Mitchell, who has been pressing Israel to work toward a lasting peace with the territory hanging in the balance.

“This is an inseparable part of the State of Israel. The vast majority of Israel’s citizens accept this, and it is gradually being instilled in the international psyche,” said the prime minister.

While I have been worried about the status of large Jewish communities, it seems that most of the threat is over for now.  Since Netanyahu put a construction freeze on Jewish communities in the West Bank, many Likud supporters have changed their views.  Those living in Judea and Samaria have had reason to worry about the status of their homes.  Now, it seems that they can rest easily.
