New Houses in Jerusalem Cause Tension

by Eric on December 29, 2009

Just a short while after announcing a settlement freeze in Judea and Samaria, Israel has approved new housing construction in three major Jewish neighborhoods in Jerusalem.  Of course, the world is freaking out.

The United States has objected to the plans to build 700 new housing units(mostly apartments) in Pisgat Ze’ev, Har Homa, and Ne’ve Yaakov.  Israeli officials also approved 500 new housing permits for development in Arab neighborhoods.  I think both additions are needed, but the White House only thinks the Arab houses are okay.  In fact, they didn’t even mention that, they only condemned the Jewish homes in the Eastern side of the city.

So, as always, the Israel-Palestinian double standards continue.  Apparently, only Arabs are allowed to build new homes in Jerusalem.
