Israel Plan’s to Free 20 Prisoners for a Video

by Eric on October 1, 2009

Israel has reportedly made plans to free 20 Palestinian women prisoners in exchange for video evidence that Gilad Shalit is still alive.  While I am sympathetic to the Shalit family, this seems a little disproportionate.

The videotape has been given to German mediators for viewing.  They have watched the tape and will give it to Israeli officials on Friday.  This is the first agreement between Hamas and Israel to provide substantial proof that Gilad Shalit is still alive.

Hamas has prevented all visitors from seeing Gilad, including the international Red Cross.  This is against international laws regarding the treatment of prisoners and prisoners of war.
