Israel Removing 100 Roadblocks

Defense Minister Ehud Barak gave the order to remove 100 roadblocks around the West Bank.  The roadblocks, built during the 2nd Intifada, were intended to give Israel an extra layer of security in preventing terrorist bombings.

The dirt mound roadblocks are being removed as part of a larger effort to improve daily life for Palestinians in the more “moderate” Fatah controlled areas.  The blocks prevented Palestinians from traveling directly to other villages.  The IDF hopes to have all 100 blocks removed by next Friday for the Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday.
