Hamas Will Not Deliver Package to Gilad

by Eric on September 15, 2009

Hamas has denied a request by the family of Gilad Shalit to deliver a care package to the kidnapped Israeli soldier.  Gilad has been held captive by Hamas since June, 2006.

His parents requested that Hamas deliver a package to their son, and they denied the request citing security reasons.  Hamas believes that a package might contain a tracking device that could lead Israeli forces to Gilad’s location for a rescue.  Some analysts believe this is a sign that Gilad is, in fact, still alive.

Hams has broken almost every law regarding prisoners of war and humanitarian aid.  The terrorist group has denied repeated attempts by the International Red Cross to visit Gilad and assure he is being treated fairly and is healthy.  No one outside of Hamas has had any contact with Gilad since his abduction three years ago.

Gilad is believed to be held hostage somewhere in the Gaza Strip.  I hope that he is still alive and will be returned to his family safely.
