The IDF has officially given a green light for a missile system designed to stop anti-tank missiles. The technology has been in rapid development since the end of the 2006 Lebanon war.
During the Lebanon war, Hezbollah demonstrated a new ability to fire two consecutive rockets at a tank with the needed accuracy and power to destroy the tank. This was a rare occurrence, but if the technology is there Israel will find a way to beat it.
The new Israeli technology is a tank mounted anti-missile system. The system will automatically detect incoming fire, lock on, target, fire on, and destroy the incoming rocket or missile. That all happens without human attention.
The military is now starting to equip tanks with the anti-anti-tank systems. Successful tests this week had 100% success on stopping incoming fire.
