Around the world, people point fingers at Israel for their “inhumane” blockade around the Gaza Strip. Not only is the blockade not Israel’s fault, it is not only Israel blockading. These inaccuracies are pushed out by Pallywood and Hamas supporters. The best response, in my humble opinion, is the truth. If we can spread the truth, we might have a chance to stem the lies.
First off, the easy part. It is not Israel blockading Gaza, it is Israel and Egypt securing the Gaza border. There are two countries that border the Gaza Strip, and both have an important role in keep the Gaza border secure. If Israel and Egypt were to just go away, Hamas would quickly begin to bring in boat loads, literally, of weapons.
While Israel and Egypt are stopping ships and weapons from entering Gaza, they are not stopping everything. Humanitarian supplies are welcome to pass through the border crossings and checkpoints around Gaza. If Hamas terrorists would stop trying to blow up those border crossings, it would be even better for civilians in the area, as supplies could flow through quicker and easier.
But, as I said above, if Egypt and Israel were to stop watching, Hamas would be shipping in weapons by the ton. Those weapons would not be used by the police to keep order, they would not be used to defend the border. They would be used to murder innocent Israelis. Even with border patrols, Hamas is constantly smuggling weapons through underground tunnels.
Richard Shulman said it best when discussing a ship’s recent attempt to cross the naval blockade: The ships’ non-violent way to break the blockade is not a legitimate answer to the blockade. The problem is that unrestricted shipments to Gaza enable Hamas to arm, thereby leading to future increases in violence. Therefore, those prominent passengers who think they are being humanitarian really are supporting warfare with the purpose of genocide. All Hamas has to do is end its Radical Islamic ideology, become civilized, and make peace.
