US and Israel Talk About Iran

by Eric on July 22, 2009

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke about Iran’s nuclear program from Thailand today. She said that she hopes Iran can still be persuaded to scrap their nuclear program, but if not, the US would respond with “crippling” actions and offer a “defense umbrella” to regional allies.

Once Iran has a nuclear bomb and drops it on Israel, the defense issue was too little to late Hillary. They are getting closer to having a nuclear weapon every day.

Israeli intelligence minister Dan Meridor had something to say about Hillary’s comments. Meridor said: “I heard, unenthusiastically, the Americans’ statement that they will defend their allies in the event that Iran arms itself with an atomic bomb, as if they have already reconciled with this possibility, and this is a mistake….Now, we don’t need to deal with the assumption that Iran will attain nuclear weapons but to prevent this.” (Haaretz)

Meridor has a point. Maybe we should do something to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons rather than wait for nuclear terrorists.

What do you all think, please give your opinions in the comments.
