Israel Aborts Test Fire of Arrows Missile

by Anthony Reich on July 23, 2009

It is reported from the USA that an attempted firing of an Israeli Arrows II missile was aborted during a test off the Californian coast.

Whilst the Arrow is reported to have intercepted and exchanged data with the missile that was dropped from a C-17 aircraft, “not all test conditions to launch the Arrow Interceptor were met and it was not launched,” the Pentagon said. The test is partly underwritten by Washington in a step that is viewed as being an attempt by the US to convince Israel not to pre-emptively strike Iran.

A test carried out in Israel in April this year saw an Arrows missile successfully intercept a Blue Sparrow missile which was purpose-built to emulate an Iranian Shihab-3 missile.
