I have been reading more about the highly controversial security fence lately, so I thought it might be a good time to re-visit the debate. There are many opinions out there. Here are the biggest:
The State of Israel and many Israelis support the fence for security reasons. The fence has been an effective way to prevent terrorists from entering Israeli cities. Pre-fence, there were many terrorist attacks in cities like Jerusalem and Netanya. Since the fence has been built around those areas, terrorist bombing have stopped and checkpoints have been effective tools to stop the terrorists in their tracks.
Some Jewish Israelis are, however, against the fence. In areas of Judea and Samaria, the fence has essentially blocked out Jewish towns. The residents of those towns are fearful that their homes will ultimately be destroyed and their cities will be turned over to the Palestinians.
The general view of the Palestinians is that the fence is bad. Many claim that the security barrier keeps them from their jobs and work places. In some cases the economic impact has been felt, but can you put a price on safety? If the PA could control the terrorists, no fence would be needed.
What do you think about the fence? Please give us your thoughts in the comments.
