UN Peacekeepers in Lebanon Helped Catch Israeli Spies

by Anthony Reich on June 12, 2009

It is reported that UN peacekeeping troops in Lebanon have helped Lebanese security forces to uncover a suspected Israeli spying ring. This comes from the head of the Spanish contingent in the peacekeeping force.

Following recent arrests of a number of people accused of spying for Israel, Lebanese claim to have detained dozens of suspects in an espionage investigation. Israel has not commented on the report.

The Spanish Ministry of Defence, however, rushed to deny the report. Spanish troops are not authorised to take part in activities of the Lebanese army.
