Obama vows "tough diplomacy" with Iran

by Anthony Reich on June 6, 2009

US President Barack Obama is quoted as vowing to engage in “tough diplomacy” with Iran over its nuclear program. This follows a meeting with French President Sarkozy in France on Saturday.

Obama went as far as stating that the actions of the Islamic Republic are not consistent with statements by its leaders that it does not seek to have nuclear weapons.

President Sarkozy, who met Wednesday with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, also insisted that there is no interest in Iran having nuclear weapons.
