Prime Minister on Settlement and Jerusalem Growth

by Eric on May 25, 2009

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the cabinet his thoughts on new settlements, settlement growth, unauthorized settlements outposts, and Jerusalem. To paraphrase, here are the big points:

  • Israel will not permit any new settlements to be built.
  • Natural growth will be permitted, as families will continue to have children and need resources in their towns.
  • Jerusalem is not a settlement, and construction will continue there as needed.
  • Unauthorized settlement outposts (there are 26) will continue to be dismantled.

Herb Keinon wrote a great article detailing the new government’s plans. Click on the link above to read the whole article.
