MK Thinks Jordan Should Be Palestine

by Eric on May 27, 2009

HaIchud HaLeumi (National Union) MK Aryeh Eldad took a proposal to the Knesset suggesting that Jordan is already a Palestinian state and should take in all Palestinian “refugees” from the West Bank and around Israel.

This suggestion pissed a lot of people off. However, there is a base to what he said. The original British Mandate of Palestine included what became both Jordan and Israel. The Jordanians are Palestinians, along with the many Israelis.

Jordan was given to the Palestinian Hashemites as part of a greater deal involving Saudi Arabian oil in 1946. The ideal outcome, according to the British, was for the mandate to be split into both a Jewish and Palestinian state. Since the Palestinians already had their part, wouldn’t it make sense for the rest to be a Jewish state?

While today the plan seems crazy, it is not far off from the intent from the 1940′s. What do you all think? While I don’t think the plan would ever happen today, I think it is an ideal situation.
