I hope all readers are enjoying the 33rd day of the Omer, a holiday widely celebrated in Israel and by religious Jews around the world.
Lag B’Omer has many possible origins, ranging from the yartseit of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, the alleged author of the Zohar, to the ending of a plague at Rabbi Akiva’s yeshiva many years ago.
Today Israelis celebrate the holiday by lighting large bon fires, singing and dancing, grilling, and taking a trip up to Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai’s grave site in Meron.
