Hamas-Fatah Talks Fail in Cairo

by Eric on May 18, 2009

Hamas and Fatah leaders met in Cairo to mend the relationship of the two major Palestinian factions. The talks fell apart as neither side was willing to budge on security issues in Gaza.

Egyptian intelligence head Omar Sueliman brokered the talk and said that “the world was not going to wait forever for them to unite and that as long as the Palestinians did not end their differences, the Palestinian cause and the peace process could be hampered,” (YNet)

Until both sides of the PLO/Hamas conflict can get along, no real progress can ever be made between Israel and the Palestinians. Who can Israel negotiate with when the two sides can’t negotiate amongst themselves.
