Arab Leaders Discuss Israel in Cairo

by Eric on May 14, 2009

A meeting of Arab states has concluded in Cairo, leaving an air of anti-Israel sentiment. The meeting was intended to put all Arab states on the same page for goals of a lasting Middle East peace. The meeting, pushed forward by Mahmoud Abbas and Tony Blair, focused on the Gaza War and West Bank and Jerusalem land issues.

The Muslim states want Israel punished for alleged crimes in Operation Cast Lead, though a lengthy investigation showed that no war crimes were committed by Israelis.

The states also want to see Israel evacuate all Jewish residents from West Bank towns and relinquish Eastern Jerusalem for a Palestinian capital.

No big news in the ideas of the meeting, but it is important to note when Arab leaders meet to find goals for a peace agreement, even if no real progress is made. At least the idea of peace is being discussed. We have to start somewhere.
