Don’t Worry America, Israel Has Your Back

I just read an interesting article on US airport security upgrades. Thanks to Rafi Ron, former head of airport security at Ben Gurion, several US airports are bulking up security processes and changing their focus from luggage to people.

Ron’s consulting firm has been working with Boston’s Logan airport and several others around the country to use Israeli style security.
Israelis focus on people’s stress signs and gestures as a focal point rather than what is in their suitcase. This allows security to single out suspicious people to pull aside for additional questioning.
Having done the El Al screening a handful of times, I now look at it as kind of fun. I always scare future Birthright participants with the idea of being interrogated by a former IDF soldier. Anyone in Israel is a former soldier, though, so it is nothing out of the ordinary.
Have any of you ever been selected for “additional questioning”? What did it entail?
