Likud/Yisrael Beiteinu Battle Over Foreign Ministry

by Eric on March 31, 2009

Some people think Yisrael Beiteinu party chair Avigdor Lieberman will end up on the wrong end of a criminal investigation. In case that happens, the top two parties in the majority coalition are fighting who will take over the Foreign Minister spot.

Likud says it goes to them. Yisrael Beiteinu says that if they can’t keep Foreign Minister, they will leave the coalition, putting Likud in a possible position to lose power and possibly sparking an early election.

Israeli officials are currently investigating Lieberman for a series of white collar crimes. If he is indicted, he will be forced to resign from the Knesset.
