Israel Says Enough is Enough for Shalit

by Eric on March 17, 2009

The Israeli government has said that enough is enough and will make no more offers for Gilad Shalit. Shalit, now in captivity for several years, is a major obstacle in Palestinian relations. Shalit was captured on patrol sparking a two front war with Hamas and Hezbollah in 2005.

Now Ehud Olmert, Israel’s acting Prime Minister, has said that no more will be offered in a trade for Shalit. I think a one for one swap is fair. Israel has offered a one for 354 last I saw. Recent efforts by the head of Shin Bet and Ofer Dekel were not as fruitful as hoped.

I want to see Shalit come home as much as anyone, however, some prices are too high. Murderers being released from prison and give the opportunity to murder more Israels is not worth it. If one Israeli is murdered by those released, it is too much. Unfortunately we cannot see the future and know who would kill again.
