UN Security Council Calls for Immediate End to Gaza Operation

by Eric on January 9, 2009

The UN Security Council voted unanimously (the United States obtained) that the Israeli operation in Gaza, called Operation Cast Lead, needs to come to an end.

The details of the resolution are very specific. The UN wants an immediate cease fire and withdrawal of all Israeli troops from Gaza in addition to an international program to end weapons smuggling.

The UN also called for continued peace talks and effort toward a two state solution.
