Israeli leaders are taking a new approach in the diplomatic battle for Gilad Shalit, feared dead by many of this blog’s readers.
Shalit has been in Hamas captivity for over two years. In that time his fellow kidnapped IDF soldiers have been returned to Israel. Unfortunately they were returned dead.
In the past, the IDF used a blockade on imports into Gaza to pressure Hamas to end rocket attacks on Israel. That did not work and led to a military operation that is ending as I write this.
Rather than just lift the blockade, Israel is using it for a different end. Israel will not lift the blockade on Gaza until both rocket attacks are over and Gilad Shalit is returned to Israel.
I am not sure if this tactic will work, but it is worth a shot. What do you all think?
