While Hamas and the Muslim world paint a very grim picture of
Israelis, they are not capturing the real essence of the Jewish people. Most Gazans would happily see any Israeli perish, and many have worked to do so.
Amidst Israel’s military operation in Gaza, many Israeli soldiers are beginning to have their conscience weigh in on decisions. While almost all soldiers are proud to fight Hamas, they do not want to see innocent people die.
Hamas puts innocent people in front of them as a human shield, and it does work in some cases.
One particular pilot, Captain Orr, has aborted missions that he deemed to have too high of a risk of civilian casualties. He describes a story in an interview with MSNBC where he say a child walk into the path of a missile. At the last second he turned the explosive away.
While Hamas rockets target Israeli schools, Israeli soldiers divert attacks to save children. Quite a different story on each side of the fence.
Orr, 25, is stationed at Ramon Air Force Base in the Negev. He did not reveal his full identity as he was not really supposed to talk to the press.
