Unlike many past altercations with the Palestinians, the Israelis are united on the operation in Gaza. Everyone agrees that enough in enough.
In the past, Israeli groups like Peace Now and political parties such as Meretz have been able to rally thousands of Israelis, both Jewish and Arab, against Israeli military action in the West Bank and Gaza.
This time, it is not the same. Israelis are not out criticizing the IDF and Israeli leadership. Israel remains united against the rocket attacks from Gaza. Israel is doing the right thing. There is no gray area this time.
While the world looked the other way, Israel was the victim of thousands of terrorist attacks. The attacks were not as gruesome as the intifadas, so they did not gain world media attention. Hamas silently attacked Israel over the course of several years. The world media did not discuss the attacks, but Israeli media did. Israelis watched the world do and say nothing while Hamas attacked Sderot. As the range of attacks grew, so did the frustration of Israelis.
Now Israel is responding and the people agree, for what seems like the first time ever, that the right thing is happening. Everyone agrees that Israel needs to do whatever it takes to end the attacks and keep the people safe.
