IDF Officers Told to Avoid Travel Abroad

by Eric on January 23, 2009

On the heels of Operation Cast Lead, is appears that individuals in some countries are attempting to prosecute Israeli soldiers on charges of “war crimes” for their involvement in the Gaza offensive.

This is absolutely ridiculous. It is pure anti-Semitism. No groups have taken any Palestinian leaders to court for their human rights crimes against Palestinian Christians. No one has taken Hamas leaders to court for their part in attacking innocent Israelis all over Southern Israel. Yassir Arafat, one of the most well known terrorists in history, was given a Nobel peace prize rather than the prison sentence he deserved for his part in the Intifada.

Now Israelis have to be wary of travel to the UK. Six nations courts have agreed to listen to charges against Israeli military officers on charges of war crimes.

In 2005 retired Israeli General Doron Almog had to turn back to Israel after landing at London’s Heathrow airport for fear of being arrested if he disembarked. This is the first time a similar situation has come up since.
