Will The Gaza Truce "Expire?"

According to Hamas officials, the truce with Israel has run its course and will be allowed to expire at the end of the period defined in the agreement.

According to Israeli officials, the truce was built with no end date intentionally so peace could be ongoing. An Israeli General said, “In the end, the test is the calm and the benefit the residents have had for long months, even though it is relative calm.”

Egyptian officials said that they are working with Hamas to ensure the truce continues. They see it as a benefit to Israel, the Palestinians, and Egypt (along with the rest of the region) for the truce to continue.

Israel’s Foreign Minister and Kadima Chair Tzipi Livni says, “If Hamas continues to foment terror from Gaza, Israel will act via the means at its disposal.”

Ishmael Haniyeh, Hamas’ highest leader in Gaza, said that he believes, effective December 19th, the truce is over.

It is a tense week in the neighborhood. My roommate just left yesterday for two weeks in Israel. For his safety and everyone else in Israel, I hope the “calm” can continue. Although if rockets continue, I would strike swiftly and intensely to send a message to those who are violent enemies of Israel.
