Shas Leader Predicts Nearly 20 Seats in Knesset

by Eric on December 3, 2008

Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the spiritual leader of the Shas political party, has made a prediction that Shas will roughly double their seats in the Knesset to the range of 18-20.

The Rabbi is encouraging followers, mainly religious Sephardi and Mizrachi Jews, to take a grass roots approach to the upcoming Knesset election. He said that every Shas supporter should encourage 10 friends to vote for Shas. If everyone works hard, he sees a good outcome.

Shas has been an influential power in helping larger parties gain a majority in the Knesset. The party does not hold to a liberal/conservative ideology, but rather supports the party that gives the most money to religious schools. At least they sell out for a good cause.
