Mumbai Hero Will Stay in Israel with Baby Indefinately

by Eric on December 8, 2008

Sandra Samuel is the well known nanny who saved 2 year old Moshe Holtzberg from the massacre that took place at the Mumbai Jewish center. Sandra, a Christian Indian woman, took Moshe from the arms of the motionless body of his pregnant mother, Rivkah.

Now Sandra is living in Israel taking care of Moshe, and plans to stay as long as Moshe needs her care. She is quoted as saying that she will take care of Moshe “as long as my baby needs me.”

Many Israelis are publicly supporting citizenship for the woman, who is looked on as a hero to the Jewish people for her action. She is modest about the act and wishes she could have done more for Rabbi and Rivkah Holtzberg.

Samuel and Moshe are temporarily living with Rabbi Yitzhak David Grossman, Moshe’s Great Uncle and the Chief Rabbi of Migdal Ha’Emek.

The world Chabad community has pledged to take care of the boy into adulthood.
