Jerusalem Light Rail’s Slow Progress

by Eric on December 2, 2008

During my last trip to Jerusalem, I saw the beginnings of construction of a light rail project the carry commuters around the city. In my hometown we have a great light rail system that is expanding (slowly due to funding issues) into a network of trains to all parts of the city.

Jerusalem will join cities like Denver and Phoenix (this month) in the US and cities in Spain and France that have electric power trains to quickly move people throughout the city.

Israel is slow to get there, but a great blog post from Israel21C discusses the progress and the new trains. Unlike other cities, Israel’s trains are, like most Israeli innovation, a bit special. The new train cars are built to withstand stones and Molotov cocktails.

Read more about the new train cars and system at Israel21c’s Israelity blog.
