IDF Prepares for Gaza Boarder Violence

by Eric on December 11, 2008

The Southern Command of the Israeli Defense Forces is preparing for an eruption of violence from Gaza as the Hamas-Israel truce nears an end.

The cease fire with Hamas officially expires next Friday, and Israeli officials are discussing the prospects of renewing the deal. I assume Hamas leaders (aka terrorists) are having similar discussions. Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Defense Minister Ehud Barak have publicly disagreed on how to handle the situation.

Ahead of a rally marking the anniversary of the founding of Hamas, IDF Southern Command placed the region surrounding Gaza on high alert.

200 rockets have been fired into Israel from the Gaza Strip over the last month. I don’t really know what cease fire they are going to renew. I think Hamas stopped following it immediately.
