Time For My Favorite Holiday

by Eric on October 3, 2008

When people ask, “what is your favorite holiday”, what comes to mind? On the heels of Rosh HaShana and leading into the holiday season (Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Shimini Eteret, Simchas Torah…), it is a time of year when I think about what holiday I enjoy most.

An easy first choice is Purim, and that has nothing to do with the l’chaim… Really.

Another that comes to mind is Simchas Torah, as we all love celebrating our gift from HaShem with… um… l’chaim.

But at the root of it, the holiday I find most meaningful in my life, and my true favorite holiday, is Shabbos. We often overlook Shabbos as a holiday as we embrace it every week. However, I find Shabbos refreshing, energizing, and spiritual. Nothing brings me closer to HaShem than saying Kiddush on Friday night. It is even better than l’chaim.
