The Rest of the World Doesn’t Like Iran Either

by Eric on October 17, 2008

The United Nations Security council, one of the most important divisions of the international body, has two types of members: permanent and temporary. Nations like the United States have a permanent seat. The other seats rotate. Iran wanted one of those.

The nations spoke and Iran lost. Of the five seats up for grabs this time around, Iran made a bid for one of the spots. The Asia seat was contested by Japan. Japan beat Iran 158 to 32.

Other seats went to Austria, Turkey, Uganda, and Mexico.

I guess having an asshole president and being defiant of the world’s requests to end a hostile nuclear program would keep other countries from voting for you.
