Israeli CEO Fired After Jews Work on Yom Kippur

by Eric on October 11, 2008

The well known Israeli drug store chain AM:PM fired their CEO after it was made public that he allowed for Jewish security guards to work on Yom Kippur. The 24 hour pharmacy is normally open for Shabbat, but was closed for Yom Kippur.

Even though the store was closed, the CEO opted to keep security on duty during the holiday. Some of those workers were Jewish, which broke Israeli labor laws.

The chain’s owner decided to let the CEO go after this came to light.

Do you think that the CEO was wrong to keep Jewish workers on during Yom Kippur? Did he deserve to be fired?
