Fatah Member’s Family: He Was Executed

by Eric on October 2, 2008

The family of a Fatah member famous for shooting a Palestinian minister in 2002 died in a Palestinian prison in Jericho. That is as far as everyone can agree.

The Palestinian intelligence service controls the prison in Jericho where Shadi Shami died. The intelligence service said that the health of the man in his 30s deteriorated quickly and he died while in prison. His family doesn’t believe it.

Shami’s family said that he was tortured to death and asked for an autopsy, something generally frowned upon in Muslim communities. The funeral will take place in Ramallah.

I think the circumstances seem awfully coincidental that a health man in his 30s suddenly died. The claims of the family are fairly sound. I wonder how it will all turn out? Tensions are high in Ramallah surrounding the controversy.
