Jewish Agency Makes Diaspora Study Anouncement

by Eric on September 27, 2008

The Jewish Agency announced Thursday how many Jews are living outside of Israel. 7.7 million Jews live around the world outside of our homeland in Israel.

Additionally, 1.5 million families in North America are intermarried Jewish/non-Jewish. This inevitably leads to non-Jewish children, so the Jewish population outside of Israel is shrinking. This is not the good shrinking of Jews making aliyah, this is the bad shrinking of people losing their Jewish identity.

“The danger of assimilation hovers over the Jewish nation. The Jewish agency is
acting and will enhance its effort to deepen Jewish education in communities
around the world.”

(Jewish Agency Chair Zeev Beilski)
