Iraqi Legislator Open to Prosecution After Visit to Israel

by Eric on September 16, 2008

An Iraqi Parliment member has suffered several major legal ramifications resulting from a trip to Israel for an anti-terrorism conference.

While at the conference, Mithal al-Alousi called for a stronger alliance between Israel and Iraq in fighting terrorism in the region.

His return gift from Parliment was extensive. They lifted his parlimentary immunity from prosecution, took away his ability to leave the country, and banned him from parliment sessions. The moderate, secular Sunni’s political career is more or less over in Iraq.

There is no word if he will be prosecuted.
