US Helps Israel Develop Arrow-3 Anti-Missile Defense

by Eric on August 7, 2008

Lt. General Henery Obering III will recommend that congress allow the US Missile Defense Agency to assist Israel in developing a modern Arrow-3 anti-ballistic missile system. With Iran’s recent display of its missile system, Israel, Europe, and the United States realise that a real threat exists.

The move comes about a week after US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates told Israli Defense Minister Ehud Barak that the United States would likely support such a move. Israel Aerospace Industries, who recently publicied its new AWACS plane, is in initial development stages of the missile. It is planned to be able to intercept missiles out of the atmosphere. This would help eliminate the potential threat of a nuclear or chemical warhead detonating over Israel.
