Olmert Offers a Peace Deal

by Eric on August 12, 2008

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is running out of time to screw things up. Unlike Bush, who was in the Olympics so he could not cause any more trouble in the US, Olmert offered up 97% of the West Bank and some land in the Negev adjacent to Gaza for a new state called “Palestine”.

His plan would keep 7% of the West Bank and give the same amount of land near Gaza. The catch, Palestine can have no army and Hamas has to be removed from control of Gaza before any land transfers to Abbas will take place.

Because of the Hamas thing, it will be tough for Fatah to live up to their part. However, Israel did make an offer. Sounds like 1948, but the offer was rejected then too.
