I just did a little reading on the impact of Olmert leaving his post as Prime Minister, and I found an interesting tidbit in the fine print.
September 17th, Kadima will hold a party election. The winner of the election will be the new Prime Minister elect, sort of. The winner will be given the opportunity to form a new government coalltion. This is imperative for Kadima to stay in power.
If the Prime Minister elect is unable to form a stable coalltion that keeps Kadima as the top party, Ehud Olmert will remain Prime Minister until the next General Election takes place, which will be a while.
I hope that doesn’t happen, though I am not sure any Kadima MK will make a good follow up to Olmert either. I am still cheering for Bibi.
