Olmert To Leave Office

by Eric on July 30, 2008

The AP reports that Ehud Olmert is going to end his term as Prime Minister in September. Kadima is having an internal election on September 17th. After a new party head is elected, Olmert will step down and allow that new leader to attempt to put together a new government coalition.

“I have decided I won’t run in the Kadima movement
primaries, nor do I intend to intervene in the elections… When a new (Kadima
party) chairman is chosen, I will resign as prime minister to permit them to put
together a new government swiftly and effectively.”

I am certainly glad that he is gone, but I don’t see things changing much regardless. I am looking forward to the general elections so Netanyahu can become PM…
